Terminal 5
So, I’m on the way to Tokyo. When we woke up this morning it was snowing quite hard after 7am we had about 4 inches accumulated. It wasn’t that cold outside though so we knew it wouldn’t stay for long. Ollie and Itty decided to immediately go out to play in the snow. They managed a decent snowman before succumbing to the cold after about 40 minutes.
Lottie had alot of fun chasing snowflakes about the garden.
So we were all doing well – Then the phone rang. It was my driver who was taking me to the airport. Lonf story short is that he was stuck in traffic on the A3. He still had 20 minutes to go to get to me and wasn’t moving at all…
Jo very kindly came to the rescue and we got the kids redressed and headed off to the airport. As happens in so many of these cases. We had a very good run into Terminal 5. It’s actually a few miles closer to the house that T4 Jo and the kids made it back home safely too…
Terminal 5
Very nice looking building
Absolutely no queue at security which is nice.
You place your bag in an tray that takes it through the scanner – you still have to pull out your liquids but that’s not too bad if you are prepared for it.
Air-side.
The building is very light and airy – They will have to put a lot of lighting in it when it’s dark so that would be interesting to see.
The shops are very nice. They have everything that you would expect. Harrods, Dixons, Boots + WHSmith. Along with all the perfume and alcohol that you’d need.
There are lots of decent restaurants. The best being ‘Gordon Ramsay – Plane Food’ but there is also a Wagamama. For quicker bites there is Pret a manger, EAT. and a sushi place. If you were stuck here for any length of time you would not starve!
The BA lounges seem very nice too. In T4 it had become very crowded. To the extend that you really had trouble finding a seat sometimes. In T5 it’s a different story. The First Lounge is Huge and there are plenty of seats in different styles. It’s all mixed up into different zones but my preference has always been to grab a comfy seat that is close to the door so I don’t have to walk that far when it’s time to leave. There is also free (as in speech) internet access (Hence this update to my Blog!)
The food is worth a particular mention. There are the usual sandwiches and a salad bar which are all very nice. The new thing is the ‘hot buffet’ which was serving bangers and mash and Pasta with a mushroom sauce. It all looked very nice…
I had a wonder round and then discovered that my flight was delayed to 16:10 – a bit of a shame as I was expecting to take off at 13:45 so here I am 2.5 hours delayed.
Never mind! – I’m expecting to make some of that up on the flight. (Two Hopes I think!)
Below is a picture that I grabbed in the lounge – (not great because it came from my Web Cam)
That’s all for now…
